The Employment Act is the key legislation that governs the employer-employee relationship in Singapore. It spells out the basic terms & conditions of employment. Recent amendments have been proposed by the Government and the changes will come into force on 1st April 2014. An up-to-date knowledge of the Employment Act will ensure that your organisation complies with the Act. In hiring foreign, local and part-time employees, many provisions of the Employment Act are relevant. The payment of salary, overtime, termination & dismissal are very critical issues when hiring employees. It is essential for all HR practitioners and anyone who has to apply or implement the Employment Act in the workplace to have an in-depth understanding of its interpretation and application.
